Bent Plywood Furnishings

Yesterday I featured the metal work of Susan Woods Studio at Aswoon. But there's much more to be seen. Susan Woods has designed a line of bent plywood furnishings that pushes the envelope of this type of design. For any lover of mid-century modern design, bent plywood is a familiar staple, but there is nothing familiar about Woods' work. She has created truly original pieces that are a clever marriage of form and function and that stand out in a crowd. This work is beautiful, brava!

The Lux Collection, Philippe Starck

Designed by Philippe Starck, the lux collection consists of a complete selection of plastic glassware, cutlery, and dinnerware for entertaining or everyday use. Very durable, the collection is available in a number of colors. The most notable aspect of the design is a horn-like projection from the plates that secures bowls and cups. This allows free movement at parties or for an everyday meal in front of the TV. A black saucer combined with a long stemmed champagne is perfect for the more formal affair.

New Iittala Glass Birds

Designed by Anu Penttinen for Iittala, the Penttinen Birds were first introduced in 2008 as an extension of the popular series developed many decades ago by Oiva Toikka. Born in 1974, Ms. Penttinen graduated with a degree in ceramics and glass design from the University of Helsinki. Her birds are based upon personality, rather than having a dependence on appearing bird-like.

Tennis Ball Furniture

From Joseph Starr at 3 Rings comes this funny look at tennis ball furniture. Personally I'm more of a hockey fan but what a fun material to design with. Anyone know of any hockey puck furniture?
