Star Sculptures By John Kostick
These delightful Star Sculptures are the work of John Kostick. "The abstract lines that define geometric forms are indicated by actual physical parts that interact synergetically," says the designer. "Thus symmetry and structural integrity are the results of the assemblage of simple linear components, tension and compression, push and pull." See link above or Design Within Reach

Space Of Tape

Via Crib Candy, I saw this story and was completely taken with it. An installation space made of clear adhesive tape stretched and wrapped between a scaffolding grid. The interior space is an amazing cocoon. By For Use/Numen.

Tina Roeder White Billion Chairs

This is a very cool idea! Tina Roeder has taken the obligatory white outdoor chair and turned it into an original with nothing more than a Dremel and a drill bit. See Appel Design for more images.

Beth Campbell Mobiles

Beth Campbell is currently showing her latest series of mobiles at the Nicole Klagsbrun Gallery in Chelsea. Campbell is an inter-disciplinary artist committed to enhancing our awareness and perception of space through her intriguing objects and installations. Her hanging mobiles have a delicacy and gravity that become increasingly compelling as you notice their subtle movement. They are composed of steel wire of various diameters, lending a thread-like quality to some, while others seem heavier and more ponderous. As a silversmith I find this work very interesting. "Laughingstock: Humor in Art & Craft"
Exhibition: November 15, 2008 - December 23, 2008
Pittsburgh, PA
We explore how artists use irony, goofiness, satire, and sarcasm in their work. Can humor and satire stimulate laughter as well as serve as a vehicle to explore serious subjects, such as feminism, the natural environment, the excesses of consumer culture, religion, sexuality, social injustice, and war ? Can artwork be "funny" and critical at the same time? How does the artist's choice of materials affect the outcome so that the work is perceived as "funny"? What are the boundaries in humor and who gets to decide what these are? Are there topics we are not allowed to laugh about ?
